Barbara was born in Ogden, UT. During her youth, her family moved quite a bit While growing up, she lived in Utah, Nevada, Colorado and Minnesota. She attended 8 grade schools, beginning with two kindergartens. Junior High and High School were spent in Minnesota, so she considers it “home” although her family no longer lives there.
After graduating High School, Barbara attended Brigham Young University, earning a BA in Communications & Marketing. While completing her degree, she served her internship with Utah Easter Seals, which is how she became involved in the nonprofit sector. She worked for Easter Seals for 17 years in four states: Utah, Maryland, Washington and California. She also spent three years as Executive Director of the Greater Los Angeles Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She has done consulting work for several non profits and has also worked as a press agent/publicist for jazz musicians.
In March 2014, Barbara joined Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC) as CEO. During this time, she has been instrumental in the renovation and expansion of BTAC’s facility, as well as expansion of the programs and services offered to homeless and low income clients. (www.theBTAC.org)
In 2010, Barbara received a Master’s of Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University. Things learned through this program have help her as she has lead BTAC through times of major change and as she dealt with finalizing her parents’ estate.
As a representative of her organization, Barbara is involved with the Rotary Club of Burbank and Leadership Burbank. Currently, she is serving as a board member of both organizations.
Recently, Barbara felt the need to become more involved in her own neighborhood through the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council. On March 15, 2016 she was appointed to the Council, filling a vacancy on the Council.
