Hollywood Community Plan Update Public Meeting

On July 8th from 10AM – 12PM, a public meeting will be held at the Los Feliz Public Library to discuss the new draft proposal of the Hollywood Community Plan:

The Hollywood Community Plan (HCPU2) sets the stage for the future of Hollywood. It directs anticipated development to already urbanized areas of the Community Plan Area, identifying suitable areas for new development while preserving existing low-scale neighborhoods.

More information can be found at the Hollywood Community Plan website. This event is not sponsored or being run by the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council.

Traffic Alert – Griffith Park – April 14-16, 2017

A message from the Department of Recreation and Parks:

TRAFFIC ADVISORY- EASTER WEEKEND AND GREEK THEATRE OPENING NIGHT

Spring Break has been busy yet running smoothly. Congestion has been reduced and people are using the DASH Observatory shuttles daily. LADOT has increased the number of buses and provided extra circulator shuttles from the Greek lot to the Observatory and back.  LADOT traffic officers have been stationed at the intersections of Los Feliz Blvd on weekends to assist with egress and Park staff has been increased to keep traffic flowing within the park.

Tonight the Greek Theatre opens for the season and we are anticipating heavy traffic as Spring Break/Easter weekend may compound traffic impact.

Recreation and Parks has been committed and remains committed to lessening impact in the neighborhoods, providing accessibility to all and protecting the natural environment.

7 Days a Week DASH Service to the Observatory and Paid Parking

Starting Tuesday, March 21st, the Griffith Observatory DASH bus will be operating 7 days a week, while paid parking is being implemented at the Observatory.

The DASH bus service will go from the Vermont/Sunset Metro Station all the way up to the Observatory, going mostly along Hillhurst Ave. before heading West along Los Feliz Blvd. and then going into the park along Vermont Ave.

The fare is 50 cents (35 cents with a TAP card), running every 20 minutes Monday through Friday from noon to 10 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Parking closest to the Griffith Observatory will now be $4/hr, with the revenue going directly to continual traffic improvements at Griffith Park as part of the Griffith Park Transportation Plan, such as the expanded DASH service.

The Griffith Park Transportation Plan was vetted by park leadership with residents and other stakeholders for the past few years, including at several meetings hosted by the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council and the Los Feliz Improvement Association, among others.

No word yet on when the proposed DASH Los Feliz and DASH Hollywood routes will go into effect or what the final routes will be.

Support of the Griffith Observatory Circulation Plan

The Board has written a letter to Michael A. Shull, General Manager Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, offering support for the Griffith Observatory Circulation and Parking Enhancement Plan. Griffith Park is not only the largest urban park in the country, but it is entirely in Los Feliz, and the neighborhood is feeling the increase in visitors to the park arriving by car. The Los Feliz Neighborhood Council supports the Plan in providing alternatives to driving and parking in our neighborhoods with improved road circulation, paid parking, and improve DASH bus shuttle service.
